PRESIDENT

Shellie is honored to serve as President of the Kocurek PTA this year. She is the proud mom of Vaughn, a current 4th grade Kocurek Koala, and Avery, a Koala alum at Bailey Middle School. This marks Shellie’s 5th year volunteering with PTA, following previous roles as Secretary and Membership Chair.

Shellie is passionate about supporting Kocurek families and teachers through PTA initiatives, and loves staying connected and actively involved in the school community. She especially enjoys contributing to events like Beautification Days and Monster Mash, and looks forward to leading programs and activities as president alongside other Koala families.

Outside of PTA, Shellie loves supporting her girls' extra-curricular pursuits in both competitive cheer and gymnastics. When she’s not juggling her full-time job, PTA duties, or gymnastics booster club business, Shellie enjoys reading, diving into creative projects, enjoying family time, and staying physically active.

VICE PRESIDENT

Troy Woods and his wife Emily have been proud members of the Kocurek community for many years. Their daughter Cora, a former student now in middle school, and their son Evan, currently in 4th grade, are both proud Koalas. Troy is serving his first year as PTA Vice President, after previously holding roles as Parliamentarian for two years and Sponsorship Committee Chair for another two. His dedication to securing new sponsors has continuously helped support our Koalas in meaningful ways.  Professionally, Troy keeps busy as an IT Network Supervisor for the Lower Colorado River Authority and also runs a small side business providing IT support to local small businesses.  Emily, an Elementary Art Teacher, is equally invested in the school community. She’s been recognized for her artistic contributions to the PTA, including the Pre-K 3 wing mural completed in 2022 and her creative leadership as the designer of both the 2024 and 2025 Kocurek Yearbooks.  The Woods family loves participating in PTA events, with Monster Mash, Glow Dance, and Penny Wars topping their list of favorites.

PARLIMENTARIAN/KMS

Kristina is a proud mom of a Jade, 2nd grade, and Siena kindergarten. This is Kristina’s third year with the PTA. Her favorite part of volunteering at Kocurek is getting to know the school faculty on a more personal level, interacting and seeing the kids during their school day, making friends with other Kocurek parents, and helping with school events. Professionally, Kristina owns her own travel agency, Travel By Kristina. She loves planning vacations for her clients as well as traveling to new places with her family.

TREASURER

Ben is serving as the PTA Treasurer this year and is excited to be involved in supporting Kocurek Elementary's students and staff. He has grown to love the Kocurek community over the last 3 years. His son, Nate, is in 2nd grade and his daughter will be a Kocurek Koala next year. By day, he is an engineer who works primarily on espresso machines. In addition to volunteering with PTA, he is also involved with Cub Scouts Pack 81 which also meets at Kocurek.

SECRETARY

Lizette is a sixth-generation Texan and proud mom to Elliott who will be a fifth grader at Kocurek this year. A native to South Texas, Lizette lived in both San Francisco and New York City creating marketing campaigns for both startup and Fortune 500 clients including Williams-Sonoma, Harley-Davidson, Comcast, Marriott and more. She proudly graduated from Texas A&M University with a BS in Journalism. When she’s not planning marketing content and campaigns for Four Hands, her current employer, she’s daydreaming about her family's next great camping adventure or trip to a new MLB ballpark.

Katie is a Kocurek parent with a third grader here and a sixth grader at Bailey. She enjoys reading, crocheting, going on walks, and spending time with her kids.  She’s looking forward to another great year with the PTA and is excited to connect with both familiar faces and to make new friends. Emily has one child who is currently a Kocurek Koala and one Kocurek graduate. She has been a school volunteer for eight years, first at schools in Waco and now at Kocurek! Her favorite Kocurek PTA events are the seasonal campus beautification days. Emily works at The Texas Tribune.

COMMUNICATIONS CHAIR

Katie and her husband, Andrew, are proud parents of Kocurek Koalas in second and fourth grade. She is grateful for the Kocurek community and all they do to help students learn and grow in a safe and welcoming environment. As a volunteer, she loves getting to know the teachers, staff, and families, and feeling more connected to the community. Katie works as a copyeditor at an international non-profit.
